How much stored energy would a drone need to carry with it to generate laser beams with sufficient destructive power in any given combat scenario? That amount of energy is probably also enough to significantly extend the drone's range.

@George-K said in Trillons: Moving is one thing. Producing it is another. Being good at moving something opens up new efficiencies that allow you to produce less of that something in the aggregate while still meeting the same overall demand. When you are bad at moving something, you have to have excess capacities at each pocket of production and consumption to ensure high probability of meeting peak demands in each locality. But when you are good at moving something, you can reduce the overall excess capacity because when one locality that is experiencing demand in excess of its own production capacity can better source from another locality that still has spare capacity after meeting its local demand.

I watched! On DVR delay. JMU was significantly more aggressive and scrappy early on which forced turnovers and let to an early 15 point lead (18–5 at one point, later 30-16?) which they held until the buzzer. Looks like Wisconsin got caught on their heels and also were over ranked at 5. Now let’s watch the JMU Dukes take on Duke. Fun times. Btw my wife went to Wisconsin so I have some smack talk points!

As a teen, I had just started buying recordings. Pollini's Chopin etudes seemed like unattainable perfection.

Story seems to have received only local coverage. Now, if an 18 year old murdered a transgender 12 year old sex partner...

@Horace said in NPs sue to use "Doctor" title: @Axtremus said in NPs sue to use "Doctor" title: @Horace said in NPs sue to use "Doctor" title: The teaching profession has been feeding off the narrative that they're underpaid heroes for as long as I've been alive. Any hero narrative will end up biting you as the beneficiaries take it for granted, and then want more, in a perpetual cycle. Hmmm … I think I see a pattern: Soldiers as heroes … the military has problem recruiting enough cadets. Police as heroes … the police has problem recruiting enough cadets. Nurses as heroes … we have nurse shortage. Teachers as heroes … we have teacher shortage. The police and soldier as hero narratives have long since passed. Obviously the mainstream narrative for police these days is villain. Soldier is still respected somewhat. God Bless our men in uniform. [image: adm-rachel-l-levine.jpg?itok=P_GaCADK]

We trained for that sort of thing, a lot. I remember one time in particular, I was taking a final prep lesson with our chief instructor before going for my CFI check ride. We had been flying for a couple hours, reviewing everything. We were making one final takeoff before heading home. The instructor shutdown the engine right about in the same spot as that P-51. He was kind enough to say "you just lost your engine". I landed straight ahead with just enough runway to stop, there were a few moments of excitement. Before takeoff I would usually ask a student what they will do if they lose the engine on takeoff. I wanted to make sure they planned ahead for it, if you lose an engine at a very low altitude there isn't much planning time. The correct answer is, land straight ahead. The wrong answer is turn around and land on the runway.

One of the most feared rotations as an intern was the month you spent in the medical ICU. If you were unfortunate enough to have drawn that rotation in July, 2 days after getting "MD" behind your name, it was 31 days of anxiety, panic, fear and humiliation. If you were lucky, you knew what you didn't know. If you were really lucky, and behaved yourself, the nurses liked you and would help you out of a jam by "suggesting" things that might be helpful. I was lucky in three ways. I had already done 6 months of my anesthesia residency (remember, I graduated early). Sudden events didn't scare me. My ICU rotation was in February - so I already had a fair amount of experience with non-surgical stuff. I was engaged to one of the nurses. We didn't tell anyone until my last day of the rotation. If the nurses didn't like you, it was a god-awful time. They would call you at 2 AM, about 15 minutes after you finally fell asleep to let you know that Mrs. Edwards' blood sugar was 105. Normal. Make friend with the staff - they were there before you, and they'll be there after you. You're the visitor.
